Herman Lucerne Memorial Tournament

Just wondering if any other HQ members are fishing the tournament next weekend. I’d like to put a face to a name.

@kingfisher, I’m looking forward to it.

I promise I’m not pushing it because I know it’s coming and I certainly can be patient but if we are able to get the skiff HQ swag I wanna make sure we wear it one night. Looking forward to meeting you and any other members.

Sorry guys but you’ll have to come up with a secret handshake, buff or something to ID each other besides the SkiffHQ swag. The process is in the works but our vendor is busy setting up the store software, we’ll then have to establish the links here on the site, then members can order what they want from our inventory list and the vendor will fulfill on demand.

We certainly appreciate the enthusiasm and the desire to wave the flag, so to speak. Like that perfect tide, it’s coming, just not right away.

@Zika we got you. No worries. Soon enough!

I’ll be the guy with a bourbon in hand. Oh wait that’ll probably be a few people I’m sure. Lol.

Are you both fishing in the boats in your sig’s? We’ll be the only OG 16’ waterman with a tiller motor! lol

Mike, I’ve got a shirt for you if you want.

Hey guys, yeah I’ll be in my boat. Last year I fished it in East Capes EVO 17 (their prototype) with a 60 on it……I’m ready to let this 200 eat!

So this was my first time fishing the tournament and from everyone I talk to I knew how important it was to catch all seven species to have any chance! Fishing the national Park fairly often, I was confident that I could find six of the seven species, but knew I would struggle with the bonefish. It’s important to note that all the fish have to be caught in the park. So going to downtown Islamorada to catch the bonefish is not possible. You have to stay in the park.

My friend and I decided to fish with Captain Lincoln Rodriguez especially since my new HB professional just went in the mold and I won’t have it till the end of October. I have to tell you, Captain Rodriguez was absolutely amazing.

My friend and I won the Top Guided Team champion and I won the largest Black Drum! Thankfully, I was able to catch all seven species with a bonus permit on the flat while we were looking for bones.

It was an awesome tournament and a great time with good friends. Can’t wait for next year. I did talk to several people about skiff HQ and I’m hoping that they to decide to join.

It was awesome to meet Mark with the 16 foot waterman Tiller, who I know worked his butt off for two days. It’s hard to say I met Kingfisher because he went by us like we were standing still on the way across from Islamorada to the park in the morning at the start. That boat looked like it was shot out of a cannon.

Ended the pre-fish day with a 34 inch red in Flamingo, which is by far the biggest red I’ve ever caught in Flamingo. The largest red caught during the tournament was 30 inches.

Great report @Intheslot12! Our tournament was frustrating, but had moments of absolute incredibility. That’s tournament fishing: the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I could have watched those tarpon in the hatch the first morning for hours. The launch from Canaveral on the second morning was epic.

The launch was amazing. The first thing we saw was a giant red glow and we just couldn’t figure out what that was until it started to streak higher and then we knew immediately. I wish I took a picture when it was red.

Intheslot,

Good for you…I am so happy you did well.
Glad you have overcome the casting issues you had and have become better.
Where can I find the results of the Lucerne tourney?
