Hells Bay Back Rest While Trailering

Read the post about the Hells Bay backrest and I am wondering how HB owners secure the backrest from bouncing while trailering long distances. I have a BT Mosquito now and have to bungee the back rest down but it still jumps around some. Appreciate any advice. John

Hi John, since day one, I have always trailered the boat with the back rest in the up position. I use a wire tie and twist it to keep it up. An old friend of mine told me he left his Down and after years of trailering, it bounced up and down on the little edge, it ended up cracking it so I always trailer it in the up position.

I also trailer with the backrest in the up position. Secured with a rope.

I used one of these and it worked great.

Piece of rope and tie it up. I have a BT Strike and noticed when the backrest is down I could only see the top or bottom of cars behind me and I don’t like not seeing what people are doing behind me while I trailer, so it goes up.

Just tie the knot back when you launch and it’s right there when you recover.

I just tighten the hinges so it doesn’t bounce, and trailer with it down because it’s easier to clean bugs off of the smooth vinyl surface than the rough mesh on the bottom.

I run mine in the down position. The only time it has really bounced was accidentally going over a RR crossing too quick. Other than that it is good. I run a lot of highway miles and the roads are pretty good down here.
