Everglades National Park/10K Islands Oct 29 and 30

Been too long, but finally got my good friend Shannon back down to the Glades to do some backcountry fishing, this time in the Gheenoe. Made it easy by launching out of the Rod & Gun Club and then running straight out the Barron River to access the areas we wanted to fish. Wind was not favorable (N/NW), water was churned up, and the tides were week in between moon stages but we made the most of it. I had a pretty good day on Wednesday with a number of small snook and juvenile tarpon. For some reason, Shannon had trouble hooking up–lot of short strikes. Tables turned on Thursday in a different area when Shannon got hot on the small snook and mangrove snappers. Nice dinner at Camellia Street Grill on Wednesday night and a good, fun pre-Halloween dinner at the Havana Cafe on Thursday night–complete with costumes and karaoke! Here are a few pic’s from the two days:

Very thankful for friends like Shannon and the beautiful places God created for our enjoyment. There’s nothing like the 'glades!

Nice time! How’s that gheenoe running?

Good report, DB. Snook and tarpon, even the little guys, are always fun.

I had a piece of key lime pie and a glass of wine for dessert at Havana Cafe the last time I was down. Next time it’s dinner. Cool spot, but Camellia Street Grill is always good, too.

I know the grass is always greener, but man I’d love to spend some time down there.
