Launched out of Flamingo at 0600 after enduring the swamp angels as I got ready. They’re as bad as I’ve seen in some time. Low tide at Flamingo meant I had a couple hours of falling tide “out front” to the east which set up nicely.
Started in one of the run-offs from Snake Bight, tossing DOA paddle tail in black with chartreuse tail rigged on a keel weighted hook. Switched to a Saltwater Assassin paddle tail in pink with chartreuse tail (“If it ain’t chartreuse, it ain’t no use”!). Trout were everywhere! I think I had 10 before 0730 along with a nice 27" snook.
I had heard a report of redfish schools on one of the bights, so I ran there after getting my fill of trout. With the E/SE wind, I was able to drift and pole for over an hour on that flat, and through I found many nice muds, they all seem to come from rays and there were no reds to found on their backs. Off to the next target.
I poled this flat for a couple of hours as the tide was just right. It’s really shallow with lots of grasses and pot holes. After a short while, I see a tail pop up probably 50 yards away. Poled towards it, but no luck–must have felt the skiff. I ended up with three nice reds on that flat before coming to the end.
By that time, the dark storm clouds were building and I figured it was a good time to call it a day.
