Sorry your finger is hanging on by a thread, but we are closing in 10 minutes, YGTBSM!

Net wars? I assume that was between recreational fisherman and commercial? That’s history I’d like to hear. Maybe a forum can be made for stories and history lessons from folks can be shared.

It was a battle between conservationists and mostly outlaw gill netters who refused any kind of responsible management plans to reduce by-catch and damage to the bait stocks.

Quite frankly, I’m glad it’s all over. We’re enjoying the benefits of the net ban and I’d rather just go fishing now.

Damn that sounds like Texas back in the day. The gill netters just didn’t want to stop. Then there were the poachers on the King Ranch, and of course drug runners in big blacked out Stoners with two huge outboards, running full bore in the middle of the night. South Texas was a wild n crazy place back then.

Stoner Skiff for the non Texans. Built like tanks back the day. Majek also made a version.

Looks like a modified drift boat. Very interesting design.

Stoners have a lot of rocker in the bottom, no tunnel but could run real shallow. And they were built like tanks. Super heavy, what all the gill netters were using.

For light rain use im usen Frogg Toggs these days! Light weight and cooler than most rain gear ….my recommendation is to go with the tan cooler color :+1::cowboy_hat_face:

Doing a lot more fishing alone and really need to get a Ditch/Safety Bag.
This post is a great resource. Wanting to get a PLB and small (and reasonably inexpensive) satcom device.

Any recommendations for those two items?

ACR for the Personal Locator Beacon and I’d recommend a Mustang fanny pack vest. I wear mine all the time and don’t even realize I have it on. The PLB fits nicely inside the pack pouch.

Thanks Z,

Is the Fanny pack vest inflatable? Would really be cool if it was.
But either way the PLB really needs to be on me to do any good when I’m fishing alone….

Yes it is, this is what I use, when solo.

I have this same thing for my offshore boat. The last thing you want is a bad bilge pump 100 miles offshore.

This is the one I use.

Anybody know of any good first aid courses that are mor wilderness/boating oriented? I need to brush back up on first aid and would like a more advanced/ more tailored tou wilderness class.

Not sure where you are located but the USAF survival school in the FL panhandle does civilian courses at Elgin and HurlBurt field on exactly what you are looking for. They use it for training the trainers. They advertise locally but you have to be willing to be part of the training as well
