Damn It’s Cold!

I am not ready for winter. It will hit the low 20s here in VA tonight.

Good thing is my camper is winterized and my skiff is in the garage. I am hoping for some stretches of warm weather here and there because I want to sneak out and crappie fish.

For those of us up in higher latitudes, how do you cope through the winters?

I am about ready to go play “Boat Drinks’ by Jimmy Buffett!

I handled it by moving back to FL..:joy:

By ice fishing & doing winter wades in faster moving creeks that rarely freeze, when I lived in Wisconsin!

Lifelong Floridian that moved to NC four months ago. Not sure how I’m going to cope yet. Had to take a last minute trip to Key West this week to thaw out!

@jc_uf_itk - if you are in NC you will be fine! Its all about the attire. Lands end has some great snow pants, aftco has a cool sweatshirt with a built in buff, add a regular buff for additional wind protection, a beanie, and a down jacket, heavy boots, you are golden.

Or, just leave the winter waters to me, thats fine too!

Mid 20s this morning in Dewy Rose Ga. The net few days could get interesting with low temps in the mid to upper 30s and rain.
Throw another log on the fire!

Unfortunately use to it up here in NH. Winter use to be my favorite month when I was younger. Hockey and sledding, ice fishing cross country skiing. But now I really don’t like walking the dog when it’s below 20 and there’s a breeze!

Reading this after just hooking my boat trailer to the truck for tomorrows fishing trip and I am sitting by the pool. I don’t know how you northern folks do it, but I do know a bunch of ya come down here in the winter!

Hahaha. From the looks of that picture, I might just leave it to you! I still have to figure out this layering process and how to actually move at the same time!

@jc_uf_itk Man I did that move 30 years ago. Spent 20 years in NC, and never got use to the cold, dark, damp days of winter. Finally moved back to FL 10 years ago and I’m about 100% certain I’ll never leave The Gulf again.

We just got the first chance of Winter weather for tomorrow. This is early.

Here I was hoping for a mild winter. lol

One of these days I am taking a winter trip down to FL and dragging my skiff with me.

Then again, I wonder how Charlestown SC is in the winter and if you can find a bite there in the Winter.

Sure is nice to daydream about going somewhere warmer and fishing.

Then again, this time of year still has the suck if the short days and long nights no matter where you are.

Hah, headed up to VA Beach this weekend for a surf contest at their new surf park. Just found out it will be in the 30’s during the practice session and for my heat. I am way too old for this, but hey, at least the water will be cold too!

Good days for making stews!

I would Love to hear you take on the new surf park. It looks awesome. I’m sure fees were covered in your entry fee but let me know if they have any specials for the off season running. It may be worth making a trip up there.

I’ll let you know how it is. An hour session (12-15 ridden waves) is currently $150. Not something I’d do frequently, but for a once-in-a-year sort of thing, seems reasonable. The folks on the team who have been said it takes some getting used to - it’s a perfect wave everytime . . . but that’s weird if you are used to real surfing.

Every year in mid-August I try to remind myself I’ll be happy to be a Texan when everyone else is bitching about the cold

Sometimes it’s nice weather. Except for when the snow drifts up and lays on your wire !!! That creates more work. This was a nice March spring day.

I always said that if they wanted to make a real Survivor tv series, then put it somewhere cold. On these tropical islands , you can pretty much lay around and let others pull the weight. If it got frigid cold, I’m sure you’d have people drop out after the first cold night. I don’t mind the cold if the wind isn’t blowing, but add that in and I turn into a whiney baby quick.
