Conchfish 16 Mrk2 build (Jacksonville, FL)

Greetings! Here is the progress I’ve made on my home built Chris Morejohn designed boat. I purchased the plans in September of 2024 and had the form stations cut out by CNC. I had the mold put together by the end of November and started planking it up.

I’m using epoxy for the entire boat. The exterior skin is 3 layers of basalt and the foam is Divinycell H-80.

I’ve made some progress. There are parts of the build that go quicker than others and the faring of the hull took me a long time. Of note, it still isn’t 100 percent done but I’ll finish after I place the bulkheads, etc.

Cheers,

Bart

Here are some pictures of the lamination process

Fairing this thing was messy and took me longer than I wanted. The lifting strakes are added as well.

I got it off of the mold on Memorial Day weekend

Thanks!

Much appreciated!

I reworked my strongback this weekend. I lowered it about 8 inches or so by adding a 2x4 internal to the external one. I then took off the tapered front and added a squared off section. Then I placed carpeted supports on the outer lower chines and added a front carpeted support and used one of the stations to determine the shape. I also used a station as a guide to make a rear support. I will add some upper chine support soon, just too dang hot during the day to get a lot done at one…LOL

The position of the boat now has the sheer a few inches lower than my waist making it much easier to work inside the hull from the outside.

I also finished doing a rough taper to the foam cut outs for the bilge and trim tab cut outs where the outside skin will met the inside. I still need to cut out the foam core for the bow eye.

That looks incredible man. Awesome work. where did you get your stations cut? I know there’s a guy building up here in savannah and couldn’t find anywhere reasonable in the 912.

I have access to a 4x8 laguna CNC and can help out when needed for station cutting. CNC is in New Orleans but I’m in Birmingham. Just throwing out there if anyone needs any CNC work.

Thanks man! I had them cut out here in Jacksonville on Nixon street.

I talked to the manager, Jim, and he knew exactly what I was going to do…he has a cedar strip canoe hanging in his shop that he built.

If you are interested, and importantly have proof of purchase from Chris or Nathan, I’ll be happy to sell my stations to you at way way less than what I paid to have them cut out originally. The other caveat is that I still need my stations for a little longer to create my bulkheads and rod holders. With my work schedule (actual job), this will still be a few months away. Feel free to DM about the availability.

Too hot? We need progress if we are ever going to christen that thing! Problem is you are too skinny…if you were thick biznass like me you’d be out there in the heat sweating all over it!

Can’t wait till it is done. Constantly amazed at your skills, and can’t wait to fish your ride!
