Colton Fly Reels?

Anyone ever put their hands on one?

The specs look incredible and the price is even better. For the price of an extra spool these look like they’re worth checking out.

30day free look period shows a lot of confidence and they’re made in the US

There are a lot of Colton fans on the Stripers Online Fly Fishing forum. Bob, the owner, is very accessible and friendly, will talk to you on the phone and make recommendations. I’ve spoken to him, we’ve tried to hook up for a Loreto trip but never got our schedules lined up. He is a stand up guy. I’ve never heard a bad word spoken about the reels on the SOL forums, people use them hard there and are happy with them. I haven’t bought them but it’s not because I don’t think they are good, it’s because I have enough and I lean more towards high end reels simply because I like them (Charlton, Mako, Seigler).

I’ve fished them for tarpon and permit and no issues.

I had one of the terrapin I think whatever the more tarpon friendly size reel is. Drag was good but had an issue where the spool was rubbing the frame under load while fighting a fish. After a lot of back and forth with Bob he kinda begrudgingly replaced the spool. It worked fine when I finally got it back and I sold it soon after cause the interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. Pretty reels.

I had a Terrapin 10/12 for a few years. Used it on a 10wt for jacks. Great reel, super smooth drag. Gave it to my son when he moved to NOLA for chasing bull reds. He’s had it a year or so and it has been a great reel for him.

Would 100% recommend.

Not familiar with them, but as another option for you to explore. I did just purchase an Allen Omega recently. They are on sale for $300, USA made, sealed drag ect… I haven’t put anything big on it yet, other than a small sharp nose shark, but it seems like a solid reel thus far.

I have 5 or so. Built like tanks. The only ding against those reels is resale value. Otherwise great reels.

If they are good reels there’s no reason to sell them!
