I had one of my bird dogs at my Vet today and she has a Condominium on Sanibel Island. She’s been fishing with Whitney and told me he likes to fly fish for Tarpon and that he has 2 fly and fishing shops. Can you site fish for Tarpon in Sanibel
The only Captain Whitney Jones I know is in Sanibel and has two shops, one conventional and one fly fishing. He is a Tarpon chaser, and overall great guy.
I made a mistake I ment Sanibel
I fixed it
Great sight fishing in Sanibel for sure.
Sanibel is part of Pine Island Sound and there are no Tarpon here, only in the FL keys.
Tarpon fishing can be really good in SWFL. This time of year sight fishing is more casting at rollers and feeders. The water gets pretty dark after the rainy season gets going full bore. Earlier in the spring and summer sight fishing for adults is pretty good as the water hasn’t darkened up. There are actually tarpon here year round. I have landed a tarpon every month for 67 months in a row. That said, this has been the worst juvie season in 20 years. It is really sad. All of my juvie poon spots on the east side of Pine Island are empty.
I been fishing to the west of sanibel on the Pine Island west side and at least getting some but still not the usual great fishing we have for this time of the year. And yes Whitney is a good dude with 2 shops.
