Big Bend 9/4 -9/9

We looked for redfish schools Thursday and Friday evenings and found them in pretty much the same spots we fished two weeks ago. The average size of the fish was smaller, but still got a couple of over-slot fish.

The water temp had dropped to 81-82, so decided to give the rock bottom and bars outside some creek mouths a try Saturday and Sunday mornings. We got a few trout and one slot red, but I think we’re still at least a month away from it getting consistent in those areas.

We had good morning lows Monday and Tuesday and I fished fly with Evan Snow. We found schools and managed to catch 5-6, solid fish but again the schools weren’t made up of as many over-slot fish as a few weeks ago. Tuesday the wind was strong enough that it made approaching the schools touchy - too hard with the outgoing tide to pole effectively into the wind, and going with the wind or cross current we had to stop well outside casting range and hope they stayed on their line to avoid running into them. Also broke off one and pulled the hook on another when they got behind me and buried in the grass with the wind and current pushing the boat away from them.

great report thanks! I’m too busy chasing a toddler around to get down there and fish these days, but it’s nice to hear about it

Beautiful area and great report!

Thanks for the report. Can’t wait to get back down that way. Love the shallow flats and oyster bars.
