Thanks to the fine folks here, who helped me get started I had the opportunity to spend a quite full day with @Smackdaddy53 on the water on my Sabine Sunday.
I’m new to skiffin’ and even newer to running skinny waters. Had no experience navigating the POC area. Being myself, averse to learning the hard way, I was looking for somebody with experience to show me the area, lay tracks and train on best operating practices for my skiff. I got that, and the fullest guided day of fishing I’ve had.
Good conversation, something like 8 reds in the boat all on the fly and my first and second black drum on the fly. Ran from Charlie’s around Mule Slough and back touching all the entries and exits, creeks and channels so I can run with a bit more confidence next time I get out there. Mac poled the skiff all day, and it was a darn good day to be out with light winds and abundant sunshine. Best day on the water I’ve had, certainly best on my skiff. As a bonus, Mac launched his mav at the end of the day, and we found how skinny we could get. Ha.
I was worn out by days end, and I didn’t even have to pole the boat. Well worth it!
As helpful as this page can be, and as helpful as just sifting through old discussions has been, I recommend every new skiffer in the area get some hands on time with @Smackdaddy53 .
