Any other artists here?

Anyone else here enjoy making something from nothing?
I’m self taught with watercolors and oil paints. Tried acrylics but hated how fast they dried and they have this weird plasticy texture to the finished paintings, I wasn’t a fan.

My bonefish original watercolor.

Not an artist, but absolutely respect your talent.

I don’t paint, i respect those that can. I do love woodworking which i think is kind of an art.

Woodworking is definitely an art. Whether it’s wood carving or squared corners, it’s a craft not mastered by many.

Me, I can draw a straight like with a ruler and pencil, but I can’t cut a straight line with a saw.

Beautiful work @David_Riina!!! I can’t free hand my own name, but work with another medium.

woodworking is definitely an art in itself, and good joint work is a mastercraft no doubt! having the right tools only gets you so far.

while i certainly appreciate the kind words, painting is just endless hours of practice. painting hundreds of shitty paintings, and learning from each one prior.

i just finished up this little 13x19 commissioned oil painting.

I wish I had this talent! Beautiful work!

I guess I am an artist. A commericial one. I’ve been a commercial photographer for 30 years but am mostly retired but still doing a bit of work in the sunglasses and fishing industries. I specialized in small tabletop photography. If someone is peeling $100s and needs a little widget to look good, I am the guy.

Dang, that’s awesome.

Somebody tell me again which commandment it is that says thouh shalt not covet thy fellow forum member’s wood stash, cuz I just broke that one.

Mostly pencil in pointillism, but also like to airbrush, watercolor etc.

David just fantastic renderings. I have started to teach myself how to paint my fish carvings. I do my art in the wintertime when inside if too cold out.
My father made his living as an architectural illustrator using water colors. I wish I had paid more attention to my parents when they painted.
Here’s some of my latest fish paintings of my latest paintings of fish on carved wood.
Thanks for sharing, best watercolor bonefish I have seen.

It’s been a while since I’ve made work, I really need space a studio, and time away from boats and in a workshop but here’s some prior pieces.

Some wood working. This was close to 18 years ago never got great photos of stuff. Yes the foot stool was a joke.

nice work Chris! I’ve always wanted to try to carve and paint an actual fish, but 90% of the time I got bills to pay so I stick to what I know sells. One day when I have some free time and don’t need $ to pour into another boat build, I’ll take some time and experiment with a wood carving or two…

Brandon that woodworking art is cool! I hear you about spending too much time on boats… I have a 1978 Sea OX sitting outside that needs about 500 hours and 20K :joy:
