Dino, I noticed you put the bucket and mat upfront, the best place is at 4 o’clock from the guy casting if he is a right hand caster, when you strip you hand ends ups slightly behind your leg so the line should drop behind your 3/9 line of your body, slightly and to the left. That arc fits nicely wrapped around casting platform, on the left or right of caster. Not a lot of guys can pile fly line in front of them effectively. At least not any of the ones I fish with, or myself.

Enjoy it’s a good tool fly casters will appreciate it.

thank you…excellent advise…I just threw it up for the picture…I am cutting down my platform maybe later today and I’ll be fiddling with the mat and the bucket…

I really like the mat and its construction…looks of “Key West Colors”, but, I went with the grey to match my seadeck…lol

Now, gotta get out on the water next week after these King Tides…

Might want to throw a towel over that trolling motor if its not deployed while fly fishing (assuming stripping with left hand). My troller is starboard so its rarely an issue unless its really windy. When I place my line mat mine is more of a long strip so I put it on the port side slightly behind to catch any line that might want to go overboard. It works more like line spikes than a mat.

It will always be deployed…I don’t ever pole the MA17…it’s a beast and with the PowerPole Move, it’s so quiet, I’ve come up on snook and redfish that spooked less than a boat length when creeping along shorelines. big “Puffs”…right in front of the bow.
