2025 Skiff Lineup/Drafts

Real world draft for an east cape fury 8-10 inches. Not a good option for the Texas gulf coast.

I took this pic of @Morgan in his skiff– while I was sitting out in the safer shallow water in my skiff. He ventured a little further inland than me. Not sure how skinny that is exactly any guesses? That little skiff is impressive to me.

Looks like 4-5" but that missing gear case paint tells a different story on planing draft if that is not a shadow.

Good eye! That’s no shadow.

I cringe looking at that and can hear the sound from experience.

Johnny you are never going to get anywhere by not exaggerating how shallow your skiff is!

the pic of the whipray is easy. Someone here has one or a 16 waterman and can measure bottom of hull to bottom motor bolts. Probably 5-6”. Then you can guess 1/2” lower where the water is.

The hard part is guessing how much the bow is drafting with the angler there and nobody on the platform. Rub rail is almost parallel to the water.

9 inches!

Still talking draft here right?

A few years ago when I did my review and swap out of my 2-AGM’s for 1-Li Epoch battery I carefully measured my Egret at rest. Fully loaded, cooler full, full tank of go-go juice, rods, tackle etc. With the Li battery she draws about 11.75”. So sub 12”.

I’m selling a new product here shortly. Anti-draft fairy dust. Guaranteed to not do a darn thing but make you feel better. $199.99 an ounce. Typical 16’ skiff requires 5 ounces. PM for more details.

You guys making me envious with those numbers. I’m in the 10-12”+, or “Magnum” category

  1. You can’t compare drafts without comparing actual specific boats. The ONLY thing that matters is the draft when a boat is rigged and loaded to fish with 2 anglers. Any other number is a mere starting point and while not quite useless….almost…..lol.
  2. Draft is but one component of a boats usefulness. One boat mentioned on here claims a 4” draft. Which may actually be accurate. But its also a zero degree deadrise so unless you are fishing 5 minutes from the launch have fun running around in that.

Nice to have this chart as a starting point. But in reality all its good for is to start internet posting and ■■■■ measuring contests. LOL

And besides that while I haven’t looked at all the builders listed, for East Cape you don’t even have their most popular boats included!!

Kevin Fenn said he has a skiff that drafts under 3"…you might ask him about it. I installed (donated) one of my systems on it back in June and never saw it or heard anything about it again. It was supposed to be at ICAST but that never happened. Maybe it’s G13 Classified, who knows.

I can tell you what you can’t pole a HPX 18 with a 150 Yamaha in . 3 people, 30 gallons of gas, full ice chest is about 10ish inches. Yes you can pole it for 9 hours a day

Yes I sleep well at night.

I wonder if that’s the skiff that was being advertised as “revolutionary” on the old forum?

I’m still waiting to see that skiff.

Back in 1999 these guys started the brag fest.

In 2000 I showed the world what an 18’9” skiff could really draft at ……when advertising her properly.
